UNAMID refused intervention after arrests in Abu Shouk camp in Darfur

EL FASHER (7 August) – The UNAMID refused to intervene in the case of the arrests after the killing of the Tunjur Chief Al Sarough and his wife. Displaced people from Abu Shouk told Radio Dabanga they asked the UNAMID to intervene after numerous arrests of displaced people by security authorities. The number of arrests has reached 26 people and they have neither been released nor charged.Meanwhile, the police arrested Tuesday Mohamed Adam Ali Sirag from Abu Shouk camp without charging him and he was not released till yesterday. One of the displaced people told Radio Dabanga that some displaced people received threats of arrest from the security authorities.
