REHEID EL BIRDI (23 July) – In a new development of arming and recruiting in Darfur, the government has given Ali Kushayb, who is wanted by the ICC in connection to Darfur atrocities, a new mandate to recruit the Bagara tribes of south Darfur for the Border Guard units. Radio Dabanga learned that Kushayb has already recruited a considerable number of people for the paramilitary group. The targeted new members come from Reheid Elbirdi, Sarir, Sarino, and Twal localities of south Darfur.

Credible sources told Radio Dabanga that those tribesmen who spoke against the practice and refused to join have been arrested and sent to jail. They added that both the governor of south Darfur -Ali Mahmoud – and the commissioner of Reheid Elbirdi – Mohamed Sharif – are supervising the recruitment.
